Jay Electronica Is Making an Impact in Music

music electronicaFirst appearing on the world wide music scene in 2007, Jay Electronica actually has his roots in New Orleans, though he began to make a profound impact on the hip hop industry while living in Detroit. A bit of a wanderer, the Jay Electronica biography must contain chapters in several cities, including Denver, Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia, prior to his arrival in the Motor City.

Born Timothy Elpadaro Thedford, the 34 year old hip hop emcee is among the latest recruits to Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, a profound achievement for an up and coming artist who has yet to release a full album. To date,his music has only included singles and mixtapes.

The Jay Electronica mixtapes and singles that have hit the market have mostly made their way to fan via the internet up to this point. He is an unusual artist with a non-traditional approach to marketing, debuting his music online and free of charge, via Twitter, MySpace and other websites.

The first of the singles to be released Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), hitting the internet in 2007 and quickly making an impact. I have been around the electronica music scene for over a decade, and I have witnessed a complete evolution in the equipment used by deejays throughout the years. I would like to explain some of the different types of equipment, how it has evolved, as well as some of the Pros and Cons of these evolutions.

It was probably back in the mid 1990′s when I first took up a real interest in deejaying and all the different types of music that make up the electronica genre. Back then and for quite a few years to come, the main deejay tools were vinyl records, turntables and a microphone. music electronicaOne of the most recent innovations to musical genre occurred in the 60′s with the birth of the first electronic keyboard. Electric organs were the first to appear and become widely used (Voxes, Hammonds, Farsifas), electrically amplified pianos soon followed (Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, Clavinet) and, of course, the Mellotron, which was a kind of a pioneer sampling device, most famously used by The Beatles (in the “Strawberry Fields Forever” intro), King Crimson, and The Moody Blues. Although the electronically produced sound was very distinct in some of the songs, it still wasn’t true Electronica – the inclusion of acoustic and/or electric guitars, bass guitar and live drumming, etc. were dominant in the song’s sound, thus classifying it as Electro-Acoustic music.
